The Problem

  The frequency and severity of storms and floods is increasing.  Formerly safe areas are becoming more prone to natural disasters.

Just 1 inch of water causes over $25k in damage on average (https://www.floodsmart.gov/cost-flooding).  Flood insurance generally doesn't cover all the costs incurred, and it might be necessary to move out of home for several months during remediation/renovation work.

All of the potential ways to protect a home from future floods (elevate, move, temporary or permanent barriers) have major issues.
