Ark Angel flood protection

My family and I live in Houston, our home was built in 1956 and had never flooded when we purchased it in 2003.  During Hurricane Harvey in 2017, our house got 7 inches of floodwater inside.

Even though the water was only present for a few hours, the impact was large--over $100k out of pocket (even with flood insurance) and we had to move to a rental home for over a year.  We were also dismayed at the huge environmental impact that just a few inches of water had--hills of contaminated construction materials and ruined personal property on the curb of every home, a large amount of new materials needed to renovate the home, new furniture, etc.  In addition, the impact on the the neighborhood was disheartening--new homes, elevated homes, abandoned homes.

 Upon researching options to protect our home from future floods, I discovered all were prohibitively expensive and not well-suited to residential use.  There were simply no good options for homeowners looking to protect their home from future floods.  Using my chemical, engineering and product development background, along with collaborations with several flood protection and waterproofing specialists, the Ark Angel Full-Home Flood Protection System was designed over the course of several years.  It is my hope that this product will greatly reduce the impact of future floods in residential areas, and give homeowners peace of mind during future storms. 

David Schwartz is the owner of Ark Angel Flood Protection.  David has a PhD in Chemistry and worked in a variety of technical and management roles in the petrochemical industry for over 20 years, at several Fortune 500 companies.  Just prior to founding Ark Angel, David was Co-Founder of a midstream petrochemical start-up that was funded by private equity, which he helped build up successfully over 3 years, culminating in a lucrative sale to a Berkshire Hathaway entity in 2019.
