The Ark Angel system is nearly invisible while in storage, at the base of the home's walls. Several colors and storage options are available.
The Ark Angel system has minimal impact on landscaping, both during storage and while deployed. Other barriers require sizeable footprints around the entire house.
The Ark Angel system protects up to 36 inches of flood depth, is stable to floating objects, requires minimal maintenance, and complies with standard city/floodplain regulations (does not reduce permeable land area of the property during flood conditions, vs most other barriers).
The Ark Angel system can be deployed by a single person in about 20 minutes!! The odds of a homeowner actually deploying a flood barrier before each and every potential flood event are much higher for a quick and easy system.
To deploy Ark Angel system, the homeowner hangs the fabric on preinstalled hardware on the walls, around the entire home. Lightweight panels are used for doors and low windows.
The water-tight seal and drainage system are installed by trained Ark Angel personnel, which minimizes leakage and other potential problems. This also allows the homeowner to focus on other tasks, as they prepare for the potential storm.
The Ark Angel system (including the permanent watertight seal of the fabric to the home's walls) is installed by trained Ark Angel personnel, to minimize leakage.
The techniques and materials used have been in use for several decades in the commercial flat roof and geo-liner industries. Proprietary techniques to handle common situations encountered (e.g, utility piping, hose valves, corners, doorways), in a watertight fashion, have been developed and validated.
Most other barriers are erected/deployed by the homeowner just prior to a potential flood, which results in a much higher potential for leakage (rough ground, limited time, landscaping, transitions, fencing, underseepage, etc.). Similarly, the drainage system of the Ark Angel system is installed by Ark Angel personnel, vs other barriers.
The Ark Angel system includes a drainage system on the "dry" side of the fabric. The drainage system includes two sump pumps (with battery backup in case of power failure) and a system of channels to remove any leakage and rainwater that get to the "dry" side of the barrier. Because the barrier fabric is against the house walls (and behind the home's downspouts) during use, there is minimal rainwater to remove, which reduces the demand on the pumps.
In contrast to the Ark Angel system, the drainage system (pumps, piping, power supply) for most other barriers must be deployed separately by the homeowner just prior to a potential flood event, The drainage system for other barrier products also needs to have a higher capacity vs Ark Angel (for rainwater falling inside the barrier, as well as on the roof of the home, in addition to any leakage).
The Ark Angel system contains several improvements and innovations to existing flood protection systems, and these concepts have been patent protected. In addition, there are several innovations involving the materials used and installation techniques, that allow for a robust and reliable full-home protection system, that have been kept as trade secrets.
Full home flood protection is not an easy "nut to crack" but we've spent several years developing and validating the Ark Angel system.
